Navy Engineers Build A New Breed of Patriotic Ships

This ship is aerodynamic, it can go extremely fast too.  The top speed is 60 knots and they can turn really quickly.

These ships are designed to have helicopters land and take off from the back deck.  

The ships are intended to hunt and pursue pirates, especially off the coast of Africa.

It's a triple hull design and operates really fast like a jet boat.  It doesn't have a big wake like typical boats.

It can also carry and hold small vehicles which might have weapons on them.

The Navy plans to build 55 of these special ships.  Each ship will cost $208 million, which isn't very expensive.

They could actually build more.  They could be used to keep America safe if they used them for protecting America's coastlines and America's shipping lanes.  Our shipping lanes are the patterns that cargo ships travel between different countries.  This could be used to keep our shipping lanes safe from pirates and terrorists and other threats.

These ships can also be used to protect America and it's Allies.  

These ships are built out of the water, called dry dock and then later put in the water and tested.  In this picture you can see the 3 hulls…one on each side and the middle hull.

In this photo you can see the back deck where the helicopters can take off and land.  The pointed bow helps to make the ship cut through the water faster and it's aerodynamic.  It looks extremely impressive!

It also has it's own weapon systems.  This ship is going to be extremely useful.  If given a chance, I would certainly go on one, even if it meant I had to get there by helicopter!  These ships are good for American patriotism.
